Eagle Mountain Family's Home Flooded Overnight After City Water System Failure

Midnight Deluge Ravages Home in Eagle Mountain Due to Water System Failure

Imagine being woken up in the middle of the night, not by a thunderstorm or a nightmare, but by a flood in your own home. This was the reality for a family living in Eagle Mountain when their home was suddenly inundated by water.

The surprising flooding event was not due to a natural disaster - it was a malfunction in the city's water infrastructure that resulted in a torrent of water gushing into their property, completely flooding their yard and basement.

A Shocking Awakening

Colby Sorensen, the homeowner, recounted his experience. He was in bed around midnight when he was jolted awake by a loud crash. He noticed that everything in their basement seemed to have been pushed aside.

His first thought was alarming - he believed a car had crashed into their house. "The vibration and the pressure that pushed through were totally unexpected," he shared.

By Tuesday afternoon, the Sorensen family was still in the process of evaluating the extent of the damage caused by the unexpected flood and the loss that came with it.

City's Response to the Unforeseen Incident

Meanwhile, the city authorities of Eagle Mountain were not idle. They acknowledged the incident and emphasized that they were doing everything possible to rectify the situation and aid in the cleanup.

They released a statement explaining that the city had responded to a water infrastructure issue that had affected a few homes in the North Ranch neighborhood. City crews had worked throughout the night to fix the problem, and the water service had since been restored.

Continuing their efforts, the city planned to remove the mud that had accumulated in front of the affected homes. The necessary cleanup equipment was set to arrive that afternoon.

City officials had also reached out to the Sorensen family directly to discuss the situation and provide ongoing support. They extended their appreciation for the patience and understanding of the affected residents as the cleanup continued.

Steps Towards Recovery

Mr. Sorensen expressed gratitude for the crews that worked tirelessly around their home. "They were here all night, fixing and repairing, which was great. The water line is now fixed," he confirmed.

Now, the Sorensens are planning for the future, brainstorming ways they can repair the damage caused by the flood. "Even if that water line broke in the same exact spot, I want to do something to prevent it from running directly to our house," Sorensen added.

They had initially planned to move their son into the bedroom where the water had broken through the window. "Never would have thought that the main would break in the front directly into the house and blow out the basement the way it did," he added.

The midnight deluge was a shocking and unexpected event for the Sorensen family. As they look forward to recovering from this incident, they also hope for better safeguards against such incidents in the future.
