Hamas Encourages Iran to Cease Attacks on Nearby Gulf Nations

Over the weekend, Hamas released a statement encouraging Iran to avoid any attacks on neighboring Gulf countries. The statement also expressed Hamas' solidarity with Iran's right to protect itself against Israel.

Hamas denounced the ongoing aggression towards Iran, which it attributed to American and Israeli forces. Despite this, it urged Iran to resist lashing out at nearby nations. This request comes in the wake of growing concerns about potential regional conflicts escalating.

The Call to Cease Hostilities

Hamas went on to emphasize the importance of peace in the region, stating that ending the war would benefit the entire Islamic world. The group called upon countries and international bodies to strive for an immediate cessation of the fighting.

The statement also commended countries that have made efforts to prevent the conflict from escalating. They encouraged a focus on dialogue and diplomacy, and for regional nations to collaborate in bringing an end to the war and maintaining mutual relationships.

Qatar Expresses Discontent with Hamas' Stance on Iran

The ongoing tension between US-Israel and Iran, coupled with Iran's retaliatory actions, has put Hamas in a precarious position due to its relationships with both Iran and several Gulf states.

Earlier this week, it was suggested that Qatar was unhappy with Hamas for not criticizing Iran's attacks on its soil. Qatar has offered a sanctuary for Hamas leaders for several years, which led to their targetting in Doha last year.

Changes are already noticeable, with Iran's dwindling financial capacity to support groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis. This shift is causing significant reconfigurations in various parts of the Middle East.

The Long-Standing Relationship between Iran and Hamas

Hamas has enjoyed both financial and political backing from Iran over the years, which has leveraged the group to further its regional ambitions of destabilizing Israel.

Last year, evidence was released suggesting Iran's financial support to Hamas. Documents found in Gaza indicated Iranian funds being supplied to the families of those labeled as martyrs, while others revealed discussions among Hamas leaders about shared interests with Iran.

There were also indications that Iran was developing strategies to provide Hamas with training and military supplies. Hamas had reportedly expressed interest in forming an alliance with Iran, Hezbollah, and Syria to streamline efforts in media engagement, regional politics, and military strategy.

This proposed alliance was intended to "launch an attack that surprises the enemy from all sides" in "the war to liberate Jerusalem," according to a document shared.

Furthermore, it was discovered last year that an Iran-directed Hamas network based in Turkey was working to transfer hundreds of millions of dollars to the leaders and members of the group across the region.
