How Do You Store Water Long Term Safely?

Water storage has always been a big concern for me, especially for long-term scenarios. I’ve used food-grade barrels and added unscented bleach, but I worry about taste and possible contaminants over time. Do most of you rotate your stored water every six months, or is there a better way to keep it fresh longer? I’m interested in any tips on container choice, treatments, or even filtration methods you trust in case of long storage.

Using food-grade barrels is a solid choice, and I agree, keeping an eye on taste and contaminants is important. I’ve always leaned toward rotating every six months, but I add that step of making sure the barrels are thoroughly cleaned between uses. Some folks use water preservative drops meant for long storage, but I’m a bit cautious about anything extra unless absolutely needed. Have you noticed any changes in the taste after six months, or is it mostly just a precaution for you, BlueMarigold?
