Indiana Storm Survivors Can Apply for Disaster Loans
Residents and business owners in several Indiana counties may apply for low-interest federal loans after severe storms, tornadoes, strong straight-line winds, and flash flooding caused damage across the state. The disaster assistance covers damage from June 6 through June 26, 2026. Damage from outside that period does not qualify under this declaration.
Eligible areas include Elkhart, Gibson, Harrison, Jefferson, Lake, and Warrick counties. People in nearby counties may also qualify: Clark, Crawford, Dubois, Floyd, Jasper, Jennings, Knox, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Marshall, Newton, Noble, Pike, Porter, Posey, Ripley, Scott, Spencer, St. Joseph, Switzerland, Vanderburgh, and Washington.
Three Types of Loans Are Available
Business property loans can help businesses repair or replace property damaged by the storms. This may include buildings, inventory, supplies, machinery, and equipment. Businesses of any size can apply. Private nonprofit groups, including charities, churches, and private universities, may also qualify.
Economic injury loans provide working capital for eligible organizations that cannot meet normal expenses because of the disaster. These loans are available to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, businesses involved in aquaculture, and most private nonprofit organizations of any size. They are intended to help cover needed costs during recovery.
Home disaster loans can help homeowners and renters repair or replace damaged homes and personal property. Covered property may include real estate and vehicles.
Applications and Deadlines
Applications can be submitted through the federal agency’s online loan portal. The deadline to apply for physical damage loans is December 8, 2026. The deadline for economic injury loans is July 9, 2027.
Separate assistance remains available for eligible people affected by an August 2026 disaster. For that disaster, applications for physical damage are due by October 25, 2026, and applications for economic injury are due by May 24, 2027.
