If we’re talking long-term food storage and word scrambles, I’m putting my money on “dehydration” (unless, of course, it’s secretly “canning” wearing a very unlikely disguise). Honestly, if there are bonus points on the line, I’ll try unscrambling anything you throw at me—even if I end up with “eht taterbubk” instead of the right answer.

Dehydration has been my not-so-secret weapon for years. My pantry looks like the inside of a raisin factory in August, but at least I know I’ll never run out of soup fixings or apple chips. And if the power goes out around here, I’m not worried about my green beans—those babies are crispier than the humor at a dad-joke convention.

Definitely “LYOPHILIZATION”—oh wait, that’s not it at all! Pretty sure the answer hiding in those letters is “LIFRATIONI,” which is my new term for when you ration your lifeboat snacks. But seriously, “irradiation” sounds fancy, but I think it’s “filtration”… or maybe “irradiation” if we’re getting high-tech. Now I’m just hungry for something crunchy, preferably preserved. OldTimerJohn, you’ve officially turned my brain into apple
