Interpol names suspect in Monaco bombing that reportedly targeted Russia-linked Ukrainian tycoon

International Crime Organization Identifies Female Suspect in Monaco Bombing Case

A 39-year-old Ukrainian woman has been identified as the primary suspect in a bombing incident in Monaco, which is believed to have been an assassination attempt on a Ukrainian businessman with Russian connections.

The woman, Anastasiia Berezovska, is currently on the run. An international arrest warrant has been issued, charging her with attempted murder, planting an explosive device with criminal intent in a public place, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Details of the Bombing Incident

The explosion occurred at the entrance to an apartment building. Local authorities have not publicly identified the three victims, but have confirmed that they are a family and were likely the intended targets. Various reports suggest that the victims include Ukrainian construction mogul Vadym Yermolaiev, who had given up his Ukrainian citizenship around ten years ago and was subjected to Ukrainian sanctions in 2023 due to his Russian affiliations.

Alongside Yermolaiev, a woman and a child were also injured. One of the victims is still in a critical condition, while two other individuals suffered minor injuries in the attack.

Suspect Profile

The international arrest warrant describes Berezovska as a Ukrainian native with dark hair, who speaks German. She is said to have a tattoo, possibly of a snake, on her right arm from the shoulder to the elbow.

The bomber was initially described as a bulky individual appearing male, dressed in a dark long-sleeved top, light shorts, and a black hat. However, after a thorough examination of CCTV footage and witness testimonies, the investigation shifted towards a woman disguised as a man.

The Sophisticated Bombing Plot

The local deputy prosecutor disclosed that the bomb was detonated remotely. The remnants of the explosive device are currently being examined. The investigation also suggests that the woman likely had help, given the complexity of the explosive device and the method of its deployment.

Two men were briefly taken into custody in connection with the investigation but were later released. The investigators also traced a rented car with German license plates used by the suspect in Monaco, and mapped her escape route through France, Italy, and several other European countries to her residence. Her last known address is in Germany.

Investigation Updates

Special forces in Germany recently searched a rented apartment near Frankfurt, believed to belong to a 39-year-old Ukrainian woman. A vehicle used by her was also secured and searched. All evidence will be handed over to the authorities in Monaco. The woman is currently evading capture, and no additional details are available at this time.

The bombing incident has sent shockwaves through Monaco, a small sovereign state on the Mediterranean coast, known for its affluent inhabitants. The country's ruler, Prince Albert II, condemned the attack as "an atrocious act" and ensured complete mobilization of public services for maintaining security.

It is speculated that Ukraine has been involved in attacks and targeted assassinations of Russian figures amidst ongoing conflict, although such incidents have mostly occurred within Ukrainian or Russian territories. Reports suggest that Russia has escalated its campaign of targeted killings since its large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
