Reality TV Star, Entrepreneur Unsuccessful in Passing California Bar Exam, Pledges to Continue
Noted TV personality and successful businesswoman recently revealed that she did not pass California's bar exam. Despite her unsuccessful attempt, she remains committed to her aspiration of becoming a lawyer.
Sharing her experience on social media, she said, "I might not be a lawyer in real life, but I do a fair job of portraying a stylish one on television." She added, "Six years into my legal adventure, and I'm fully committed to cracking the bar exam. No easy way outs, no throwing in the towel — only more studying and an elevated resolve."
Undeterred and Motivated
The 45-year-old TV star admitted that her score was not far from the passing grade, which she sees as motivation for her next attempt. "I was on the brink of passing the exam, and that has only spurred me on. Let's do this!" she cheered.
Despite her recent setback, she remained optimistic about passing the exam during an appearance on a British talk show in October. While on the show to promote a new series where she plays a divorce attorney, she expressed her confidence in soon becoming a "certified lawyer."
Following Her Father's Path
Her ongoing attempt to become a lawyer mirrors her father's career, who was a renowned attorney. Her father was a member of the famous legal team that represented a high-profile celebrity during his 1995 murder trial, where he was accused of killing his ex-wife and her friend. He was eventually acquitted.
In an interview with a popular fashion magazine in April 2019, the TV star and mother of four shared her decision to study law in 2018. This decision was influenced by her active involvement in advocating for the case of a former prisoner, Alice Marie Johnson, who had been sentenced to life plus 25 years for a nonviolent drug offense. The prisoner's sentence was commuted in 2018 by the President due to the efforts of the TV star and others and was later pardoned.
The Journey So Far
Over the years, she has been studying under the guidance of two experienced lawyers. Instead of attending law school, she decided to pursue a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco and then appear for the bar exam in 2022.
Despite delays due to the global health crisis, she successfully passed the preliminary bar exam in December 2021 after multiple attempts. Later in May, she cleared the compulsory Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam, a prerequisite for attempting to pass a bar exam in the U.S.
AI Assistance in Law Studies
Just days before revealing her bar exam results, she mentioned using artificial intelligence to aid her law studies during a lie detector test on a popular magazine show. When asked by her co-star if she considers the AI to be a friend, she replied, "I use it for legal advice. When I need an answer to a question, I take a picture, snap it, and put it in there."
To this, her co-star jokingly replied, "So, you're cheating?" She responded, "They're always wrong. It has caused me to fail tests."
