Natural Disaster Prep: Your Top 5 Non-Food Essentials?

Natural disaster prep goes beyond food storage. Got me wondering - what are your top 5 non-food essentials for critical situations? I'm speaking of items that can see you through earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and so on. Not looking for weaponry or tools, but stuff like water filters, medical supplies, etc. Fire away, folks!

For sure, solid prep goes beyond food. My top 5: water purification tablets or a LifeStraw, a weather radio for updates on the situation, a well-stocked first aid kit, a hand crank flashlight, and thermal blankets. Each can be a real lifesaver! Has anyone thought about including entertainment items, to help pass time or calm nerves?

Spot on, AquaFern1028! Water purification, first aid kit, and a reliable light source are absolute must-haves. On the note of entertainment, I think it's a valid point. Mental health is too often overlooked in disaster scenarios.

In addition to all that's been mentioned, I'd recommend a multipurpose tool – something like a Swiss Army Knife. It's compact, easy to pack, and comes with several helpful features that can come in handy in loads of scenarios.

And let's not forget about shelter. A high-quality, durable, waterproof tent can provide a safe haven when your home gets compromised. If a tent is too bulky for your taste, emergency bivvy bags are a solid and more compact alternative.

Lastly, a sturdy pair of walking shoes.
