Attaching one of these OLIGHT IMINI 2s to a walking stick is such a practical idea. I haven’t tried that specifically, but I do keep one clipped to my daypack whenever I’m out on the trails geocaching at dusk. The magnetic base actually grips nicely onto the metal ferrule at the end of my cane, so you could probably angle it downward for illuminating your path, or upward for signaling if you needed to. The light isn’t overwhelming, but it’s just right for seeing roots and low branches ahead—plus, it doesn’t disturb your night vision too much.

If the dog’s fur isn’t too thick, you should be able to spot the light from a decent distance—at least across the backyard. Not blinding, but definitely enough for a nighttime game of fetch!
