Revamped Calling Features Coming to Popular Smartphone

A well-known smartphone is enhancing its Phone and Contacts applications by introducing a feature called "calling cards". This addition is currently being tested by some users before it becomes universally available.

Say Goodbye to Simple Profile Pictures: Hello, Fullscreen Images

Now, when users receive a call, they won't just see a small profile picture of the caller. Instead, they'll be greeted with a full-screen image. This is a similar feature that another competitive smartphone introduced in its iOS 17 version, but this smartphone's approach seems to provide a more immersive extension of profile images. This new feature allows users to decide what image everyone will see, potentially extending to the calling cards feature.

How to Use the Calling Cards Feature

Once this feature is available, you'll be prompted to try out the calling card when you open a contact's page. The prompt will suggest you to customize how the contact appears during calls. The feature, codenamed "patrick" in the smartphone's Phone app, adds to the existing profile picture function.

Customization: Images, Fonts and Colors

After selecting an image from your Camera, Gallery, or Photos and adjusting its placement, you can choose a font and color for the name that appears near the top of the Incoming Call screen. This smartphone is offering a wide array of color options to choose from:

  • Autumn Orange
  • Black
  • Blush Pink
  • Dark Green
  • Dark Purple
  • Gentle Blue
  • Greenish Yellow
  • Lavender
  • Lavender Two
  • Navy
  • Orangy Yellow
  • Raspberry Pink
  • Red
  • Reddish Orange
  • Royal Blue
  • Seafoam Green
  • Smart Color
  • Vivid Cyan
  • White
  • Yellow Green

There's also a "Smart Color" option, giving users the freedom to fully customize their calling experience.

New Answering Gestures

Alongside the calling cards feature, this smartphone is also planning to introduce new ways to answer calls, such as horizontal swipe or a single tap gesture. This will give users more flexibility and ease during the call answering process.

Availability of Calling Cards

The calling cards feature is not yet widely available. However, some users have reported seeing it after the smartphone's recent beta testing. The Contacts application has also been updated with a new expressive design, further enhancing the user experience.

Other Developments

In addition to the calling cards feature, an upcoming "Call Message" capability has been renamed to "Take a Message" in the latest beta version. This shows the smartphone's continuous efforts to improve and refine its features based on user feedback and testing.
