Latest Update on Conflict Zone Actions
The latest round of attacks in Ukraine saw extensive use of drone and missile technology, resulting in a high number of civilian casualties in Kyiv City. The attackers deployed a variety of missiles and drones from different locations. These included two hypersonic cruise missiles, 13 ballistic missiles, 25 cruise missiles from the sea, 24 more cruise missiles from a different region and four more cruise missiles from another location.
Furthermore, the attackers deployed 430 various types of strike drones, with about 250 of them being a certain type. These drones were launched from multiple regions, including several cities and occupied areas. On the defensive front, Ukrainian forces were able to shoot down 402 drones, one hypersonic cruise missile, seven ballistic missiles, 25 cruise missiles, 24 other cruise missiles, and one more cruise missile. Six missiles and 28 strike drones hit 11 locations, with drone debris impacting seven locations.
Impact of Strikes
The strikes had a significant impact on Kyiv City and several other regions. Targets included energy infrastructure in Kyiv, as well as residential and educational infrastructure. The strikes caused power disruptions in several regions and caused significant damage to civilian, transportation, and agricultural infrastructure in one region.
The leader of the military administration in Kyiv reported that the strikes resulted in at least five deaths and 22 injuries. They also damaged residential facilities, warehouses, and vehicles, leaving thousands without power and heating.
Ukrainian Counterstrikes
Ukrainian forces retaliated with long-range strikes against the attackers' military and oil infrastructure. These strikes resulted in a fire at an oil refinery and damage to port infrastructure at a certain location. Footage shows a fire at the refinery, and it is believed that the main refining unit at the refinery was destroyed. The Ukrainian forces also struck a railway ferry and a cargo ship, rendering the ferry inoperable and damaging the cargo ship. Further strikes targeted an airfield which houses a training aviation base capable of accommodating various types of aircraft. An explosion was also observed near a chemical plant, although the cause is currently unclear. A previous strike had targeted this same chemical plant.
Mid-Range Strike Campaign
Ukrainian forces have been ramping up their mid-range strike campaign, thereby increasing their ability to counter missile strikes, degrade air defenses, and disrupt offensive operations. These mid-range strikes have targeted a variety of military targets in Russia and occupied Ukraine. Footage confirmed strikes on a ballistic missile launcher preparing to launch missiles at Ukraine and a missile launcher storage warehouse, both in occupied areas. Ukrainian forces also struck a radar station and five air defense systems. Further strikes targeted an air defense missile depot, a command post for unmanned systems forces, and command and observation posts in various locations. A repair center and warehouse, a force concentration, and a materiel and equipment warehouse were also struck. Footage confirms that Ukrainian forces struck two trains conducting logistics in occupied areas, disabling them.
The intensification of the mid-range strike campaign, which has largely targeted forces and assets in eastern and southern Ukraine, is expected to disrupt the attackers' planned spring-summer offensive. Ukrainian forces have also begun targeting multiple launch rocket systems, which will likely degrade the attackers' ability to conduct artillery preparation of the battlefield ahead of any planned ground operations.
Despite these counterstrikes, the attackers continued offensive operations in northern regions, although they did not make any advances. Attacks were carried out near several cities and towns, with claims of counterattacks by Ukrainian forces. The attackers are also accumulating forces in preparation to resume offensive operations in certain directions.
In summary, the conflict zone continues to see intense activity with both sides deploying a variety of tactics and technology. The impact on civilian life and infrastructure is significant, with power disruptions and damage to residential, educational, and agricultural facilities. Defensive and offensive actions continue, with Ukrainian forces intensifying their mid-range strike campaign in an attempt to disrupt the attackers' planned spring-summer offensive.
