Soccer Star Criticizes Pop Artist Over Unfortunate Incident
A well-known pop singer recently had to address allegations that she "does not despise kids". This was after a renowned soccer player accused her of an "extremely distressing incident" involving a security official.
The soccer player, who currently represents Flamengo in Brazil, shared an Instagram story recounting an incident involving his wife and daughter. They were in Sao Paulo to attend a music festival where the singer was performing, since his daughter is a huge fan of hers.
According to the player's account, his wife and daughter were having breakfast at their hotel when they noticed the singer at a nearby table. His daughter, filled with excitement, merely walked past the singer, gave a warm smile, and returned to her table.
Security Guard's Controversial Reaction
However, things took an unexpected turn when a burly security guard approached their table. The player explained that this guard began speaking in a highly hostile tone to his wife and daughter, accusing them of 'disrespecting' and 'harassing' others.
"The guard went as far as threatening to lodge a complaint against them with the hotel. All this, while my 11-year-old daughter sat there, crying," he wrote.
The player, who has also been in the limelight throughout his career, admits to understanding the need for respect and boundaries. However, he insisted that the guard's reaction was not justified.
"What occurred there was not a case of disrespect. It was merely a child expressing admiration for someone," he stated.
Importance of Fans
He expressed his disappointment at the treatment from those who should value their fans. "It's disheartening to witness such treatment, particularly towards those who should be recognized for their importance as fans," he said.
The soccer player urged for this incident to serve as a moment of reflection, stating that no one, especially a child, should endure such an ordeal.
He ended his Instagram post with a stern message: "WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION."
Singer's Response
The singer, on her part, responded to the backlash on social media with a video explaining her side of the story.
"What happened today involved a mother and child and a security guard who is not part of my personal security," she said. "I didn't even see a woman and a child. No one approached me. I wasn't bothered by anyone."
She made it clear that she didn't instruct the security to intervene. "I do not hate those who enjoy my music," she said. "I do not hate children. It's outrageous to suggest that.
"I feel sorry for the mother and child who were wrongly accused. If you felt uncomfortable, that truly saddens me. You didn't deserve that."
Mayor's Intervention
The Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Cavaliere, has voiced his support for the soccer player. He went as far as stating that he plans to prohibit the singer from performing in his city.
