Paracord gets a lot of love, but I’d actually put a simple beeswax candle at the top of my unconventional list. Not only does it give you light and warmth, but you can use it to waterproof gear or even treat small cuts. The old folks always kept a bit of wax handy for a reason. Curious what oddball items others have found useful—sometimes the smallest thing can make a big difference out there.
