For me, root cellaring has been a bit of a revelation—never thought my old basement would become so valuable! During a grid-down event, keeping things like potatoes, squash, and apples cool and dry there works much better than I expected. I’ve also started experimenting with fermenting—sauerkraut, pickles, even some old-timey recipes I found in a 19th-century gardening manual. Anyone else tried using old preservation methods like this? They don’t rely on power, and I find the flavors downright nostalgic.
