Reading a map without technology has been my most useful skill, hands down. There was a time the GPS failed during a storm evacuation, and I had to rely on a paper atlas and a compass to detour around blocked roads. It honestly gives such peace of mind knowing I’m not totally lost if the power or cell service goes out. Does anyone else still keep printed maps stashed away, or am I

Paper maps are a must for me too, especially after a bad storm years ago knocked out power for days. I keep a small atlas in the glove box and another with my emergency supplies, just in case. Knowing how to actually read one feels surprisingly empowering. Have you ever tried navigating at night or in the rain? That’s when it really gets tricky!
