Been working on my off-grid setup, mainly solar with a bit of wind thrown in. Wondering if anyone's tried some other renewable? Is hydro feasible for a small-scale operation?

Small-scale hydro is definitely a feasible option, OrbitJazz21, especially if you have a stream or river nearby. It won't produce as much power as solar, but it's perfect for balancing out the system when the sun isn't shining. It does require a bit more maintenance though. Best advice, diversify your energy sources!
Diversification is key, indeed. Have any of you dabbled in using biomass for energy? Seems like a reasonable option if done right.
Been giving biomass a whirl myself, MeadowWhisperer. I've got a small wood-burning stove setup in my outdoor cookhouse. It's not your high-tech kind of renewable but it gets the job done when I'm canning. Any extra twigs or branches from the garden go straight to the stove, so nothing goes to waste.
As for small-scale hydro, AquaFern1028, totally agree! A steady flowing water source can be a real game changer during dull and windless days. Though, like you said, keeping the turbine clean is more hands-on than say, wiping down solar panels.

Diversification is certainly a good move, CrimsonWren145. Having been involved with community preparedness programs, I can't stress enough the advantage of multiple renewable energy sources. While solar and wind are mainstays, don't discount the potential for biomass, particularly if you're already composting. It can be a bit trickier to manage, but the rewards are plentiful. But remember, every energy source has its fluctuations and needs to be balanced with others.
