Tina Fey Mocks Trump’s Failed US 250th Anniversary Music Festival on Late-Night Show

A Sharp Retort from Comedian Tina Fey to Trump's Failed Music Festival

Comedian Tina Fey, a former member of the Saturday Night Live (SNL) cast, recently took a jab at the failed music festival celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States, planned by Donald Trump. This was while she was marking a milestone of her own.

While appearing on a popular late-night show alongside another SNL alumnus, the 56-year-old Fey shared an interesting tradition that her husband, who's received Tony nominations, follows every June.

A Family Affair: Musical-Theater in the Fey Household

"The ones into musical-theater at home are my husband, Jeff Richmond. He's the real deal. He knows his stuff," Fey shared. "And guess who's collaborating on a musical this summer with Jeff? Steve Higgins."

Every year, 65-year-old Richmond and 62-year-old Higgins return to Richmond's birthplace in Ohio to present a theatrical rendition of the Tony-winning musical 1776.

"They'll be putting up a production of 1776. That's the proper way to celebrate our nation's anniversary," Fey pointed out, poking fun at Trump's unsuccessful concert.

Trump's Music Festival Fiasco

Trump, at the age of 79, revealed the nine featured acts for his "memorable" Great American State Fair. However, six of these acts pulled out within days, leaving Trump in a bind to find replacements.

In a string of furious posts on his social media platform, Trump vented his anger at the "second-class artists" who withdrew and hinted that he might scrap the festival entirely and hold a political rally in its stead.

"Jeff and I are going to spar with each other," Higgins joked, alluding to the Freedom 250 UFC fight happening on the White House's South Lawn.

"They're going to have a UFC fight," Fey continued, laughing.

"KFC. We're going to eat a lot of KFC," Higgins added humorously.

Celebrating Personal Milestones

Along with commemorating America's 250th anniversary, the show's host noted that Fey was also celebrating her 25th wedding anniversary with Richmond, whom she lovingly calls her "travel-sized" husband due to his shorter height.

"Thank you!" Fey responded to the cheering audience, quipping, "So you all were wrong. Everyone said we wouldn't last."

When asked about their anniversary celebrations, Fey recounted that she and Richmond had extended a trip to Los Angeles for the filming of a movie into a private retreat. The couple had a "peaceful" weekend where they "did nothing" but relax by the pool.

The highlight of their trip was when the couple, who first met in 1993 while performing improv at a comedy theater in Chicago, were able to explore a shopping mall without the presence of their children.

"At one point, we asked, 'Do you want to stroll around a mall?' and I was like, 'Yes,'" she said, adding that nothing could be better than a "stroll around a mall with no kids? Not have to enter a noisy clothing store? Just do what you want?"

"You want to check out these broad shoes for an hour?" she jested. "Go ahead, do it. This is love."

"It was fantastic," she concluded.
