A Slow Drizzle: Hints and Answers for the Daily Word Puzzle

This word puzzle uses the theme “A slow drizzle.” The hidden answers are connected to thick, sweet toppings and flavor boosters. If you want to solve the board yourself, start with the clues below and stop before the answer section.

Hint for the Main Theme Word

Think about how you might describe something poured over pancakes or waffles. It could be sticky, sugary, and slow-moving.

Hint for the Hidden Theme Words

The theme words are thick condiments and flavor enhancers that are mainly sweet. Many of them are used in small amounts to add a rich taste to food or drinks.

Spoilers begin below. The full answers and a description of the solving process appear in the next sections.

The Main Theme Word

The spangram, or main word that stretches across the board, is:

STICKYANDSWEET

This phrase captures the shared quality of all the answers. Each hidden word describes something sugary, thick, or slow to pour.

The Theme Words

The five theme words hidden in the puzzle are:

  • MOLASSES
  • HONEY
  • SYRUP
  • TREACLE
  • GRENADINE

These words cover a range of sweet ingredients. Molasses and treacle are dark, thick syrups. Honey is naturally sweet and pours slowly. Syrup is commonly served with breakfast foods, while grenadine adds sweetness and color to drinks and desserts.

How the Board Comes Together

The puzzle can be difficult at first because many letter groups look like they might form words connected to the clue. Several possible guesses appear on the board, including SWEEP, WEEP, WEEPS, GARDEN, CLEAR, SMOKY, SMOKE, SHONE, HOSE, HOSES, SWEET, TICKLE, DINE, STICK, STICKY, CIDER, and DRAIN. None of these are theme answers.

The first clear answer is HONEY, located near the upper-right part of the board. That word helps reveal the real idea: the answers are sweet, thick toppings or ingredients that may be poured in a slow stream.

MOLASSES appears to the left of HONEY. SYRUP is positioned below HONEY. After those words are found, the larger phrase STICKYANDSWEET becomes easier to spot across the board.

TREACLE is found below the beginning of the spangram. The final answer is GRENADINE. Once all five theme words and the spangram are marked, every letter on the board has been used.

Solution Path

A player might first search for words linked to rain, mist, or gloomy weather because of the clue about a slow drizzle. That approach can lead to guesses such as SWEEP, WEEP, or DRAIN, but those words do not fit the actual theme.

The turning point comes with HONEY. That answer suggests the clue is describing something poured over food rather than weather. From there, the other sweet ingredients become easier to recognize:

  • Find HONEY in the upper-right area.
  • Locate MOLASSES to the left of HONEY.
  • Find SYRUP below HONEY.
  • Trace the spangram, STICKYANDSWEET.
  • Find TREACLE below the beginning of the spangram.
  • Finish with GRENADINE.

The completed pattern is shown by five blue theme markers and one yellow marker for the spangram.

How This Word Puzzle Works

The game combines parts of a crossword and a word search. A clue points toward the board’s subject, and players must find hidden words that match it.

The most important answer is the spangram. It gives a clearer description of the theme and stretches from one side of the board to the other, either across the board or from top to bottom. After it is found, it is highlighted in yellow. Finding it often makes the remaining answers much easier.

Words may travel in any direction. They can move up, down, sideways, or diagonally. Each letter can be used only once for a word. A correct theme answer is highlighted in blue.

Using Hints

Players who need help can submit other words found on the board. A guess must contain at least four letters. These extra words do not belong to the theme, but they count toward a hint.

After three valid non-theme words are entered, the hint option becomes available. Using it highlights all the letters in one theme word. The player must still connect those letters in the correct order. If another hint is used before the highlighted word is solved, the letter order will be shown.

How to Finish

There is no time limit and no set number of guesses. An incorrect guess does not end the game. A valid non-theme word earns progress toward a hint, while a word that is too short or invalid causes the entry to shake.

The puzzle is complete when the player finds the spangram and every theme word, using all of the letters on the board. The final result shows blue markers for the theme words, a yellow marker for the spangram, and a lightbulb marker for any answer found with help from a hint.
