Turning Your Basement into a Self-Sufficient Bunker: Tips?

Looking to convert my basement into a self-sufficient haven, and need some input on the best ways to go about it. Been big on research, and off-grid living's got me fascinated. What I'm envisioning is a setup with renewable energy sources, maybe solar or wind if feasible. Water collection and filtering's another need, even thinking about a rain catchment system.

For water collection, definitely invest in a rain catchment system, they're a blessing. As for storage, I'd suggest considering vacuum-sealed food, lasts longer than canned stuff.
