A tragic event unfolded when a University of Alabama scholar, identified as James Paul Gracey, was discovered lifeless at a beach in Barcelona. The accounting major had not been seen since he left a local club.

The unfortunate discovery of his body was made at Somorrostro Beach in the evening. James was last seen at Shoko, a popular coastal nightclub located in Villa Olimpica. His worried parents, Taras and Therese Gracey, described his last known outfit as a white shirt, dark trousers, and a distinctive chain with a gold rhinestone cross.

Separation from Friends Led to Disappearance

Cavin McLay, president of the Theta Chi fraternity at James's university, shared that the young man had been at the club with a group of friends. They got separated, and that was the last time anyone saw James. McLay, who is also currently in Barcelona, clarified that he wasn't staying with the same group of friends that James was part of. About 10 individuals from their university fraternity were visiting Barcelona, where some fraternity members are studying abroad.

Theta Chi Fraternity CEO, Michael J. Mayer, lamented over the loss of their beloved fraternity brother. Mayer described James as a person of deep faith and genuine care for others, reflecting his roles within the fraternity as Chaplain and Philanthropy Chairman.
