Warren Buffett Calls Bill Gates' Relationship with Epstein 'Distasteful,' Says Everyone Makes Mistakes

Philanthropist Labels Gates' Ties with Epstein as 'Unsavory,' But Acknowledges Human Error

Bill Gates' involvement with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has been labeled as "unsavory" by a renowned philanthropist, who despite this, refrained from donating to the Gates Foundation in his recent charitable contributions. He rationalized the situation, stating that everyone is prone to making errors, even himself.

"I have been immersing myself in an extensive amount of information since the beginning of the year about Bill's relationship with Epstein," he said. "While I find it unsavory and while mistakes were indeed made, I myself have made mistakes when it comes to hiring people or choosing friends, only to discover later that they were not what I had believed them to be. There is nothing in the scenario that I couldn't see myself unintentionally falling into."

Decades-Long Friendship and Philanthropy

The philanthropist, who has been friends with Gates for over 30 years, carried out an in-depth review of the information regarding Gates' relationship with Epstein before he decided to restructure his charitable donations. This year, his donations were directed towards four foundations linked to his family.

Previously, the foundation established by Gates was the largest beneficiary of his yearly donations. Since 2006, he has gifted over $47 billion worth of company stock to the charitable organization founded by the technology tycoon and his former spouse.

Despite the controversy, he maintains that he and Gates continue to be in touch and even spent a considerable amount of time together recently.

“He stopped by not too long ago, and we had a three-hour conversation," he stated. "He plans to reach out to me again and has already suggested another meeting."

A Shift in Inheritance Plans

Known as the 'Oracle', he stated that his estate plan will be revised to give more responsibility to his three children. He revealed that he has been slowly preparing them for this role over the years.

"I had to reconsider my entire situation," he said. "I had donated a significant amount of money to the Gates Foundation, which I had thought was a good decision. In hindsight, it was an acceptable decision, but I didn't believe my children were ready to handle such large sums of money."

"I have informed my three children that this is their responsibility, and they have to handle it well," he added.

Earlier this week, he declared his intention to distribute all his shares in his company within approximately eight years, noting regretfully that his children are "unfortunately growing older."

This year, he is donating 9 million Class B shares with a current value of around $4.5 billion to the Susan Thompson Foundation, named after his late first wife. His children's foundations, the Sherwood Foundation, the Howard G. Foundation, and the NoVo Foundation, will each receive 1 million Class B shares worth just under $500 million.

Recent Health Challenge

He also shared that he had recently undergone surgery after fracturing his leg a few weeks ago, but is currently on the path to recovery.
