What’s In Your Bug Out Bag Right Now?

Curious what gear others are packing these days—especially with all the weather changes lately. My bag's got water filter, solar charger, compact stove, and extra meds. Anyone updated their kit recently or swapped in new tools?

Swapped out a few things as soon as the weather started turning. Wool socks and a lightweight rain poncho are must-haves for me now—tried to get by with a cheap plastic poncho last year, but that thing ripped on the first branch I brushed past. Added a small battery-powered fan, believe it or not; doesn’t take much space and last month's power outage proved how

Been tinkering with my bag lately, so this thread’s timing is spot-on. Swapped out the heavier fleece layers for a merino wool base and a packable waterproof shell—the weather can’t seem to make up its mind, so I’m trying to cover both ends of the spectrum. Kept my old field guide tucked in too (force of habit from the library days I suppose), but added a pair of sturdy gardening gloves, which have come in handy more than I expected for clearing brush or handling rough stuff.

Also, upgraded my first aid kit after realizing I’d

Interesting to see how many of us are swapping layers with the weather so up in the air lately. I just swapped in a packable wool hat and lightweight gloves—never thought I'd need both rain gear and sunblock side by side but here we are. Still carry a slim paperback for long waits

Rain gear and sunblock live side by side in mine too—I’ve even thrown in a bandana for everything from dust to sun to hot handles. Do you ever switch out snacks seasonally?

Added a water filter myself not long ago—couldn’t see a reason not to, especially with all this unpredictable rain. Still haven’t tried a solar charger yet, though; does yours give enough power for basics like a phone or flashlight, CrimsonWren145? Recently swapped in a small pruning saw since I’m always fussing with overgrown paths, and a bigger zippered pouch for extra seeds (old habits die hard). Haven’t tossed any new meds in, but you’re making me rethink that—se

Wool socks, rain gear, and sunblock all in one bag—feels like packing for every season at once these days. I’ve kept the basics: flashlight, multitool, water filter (one for me, one for the grandkids), and a sturdy whistle. Swapped my heavy thermal blanket for a lighter mylar one and squeezed in a foldable pet bowl since one of the neighbor’s dogs seems to tag along more often than not when we have drills. First aid kit’s always evolving—this year I added more wound closure strips and a couple of extra inhalers since my daughter’s asthma flared up unexpectedly last fall.

Snacks are definitely a seasonal swap for me—summer it’s almonds and dried fruit, winter I sneak in a few chocolate bars for energy and, honestly, morale. Chapstick and bug wipes are year-round now. Anyone else find little surprises in the bottom of their bag from last season? Pulled out a squ
