Whats One Prep Item You Never Leave Home Without?

Pocket flashlight is always with me, right next to my multitool. Even in daylight, you never know when you'll need it. What's the one thing you refuse to leave behind, no matter how short the trip?

Can’t go anywhere without my little first aid pouch, even if it’s just a bandaid and some aspirin. Anyone else carry some basic meds just in case?

Always got a mini water filter tucked in my bag, even for errands—just feels right knowing I can get safe water anywhere. Anyone else do the same or is that overkill?

Reading glasses are my non-negotiable—can’t read a map or a label without them, and I keep a backup pair in my purse just in case. Funny how the little things can feel like the biggest lifelines. I do have a tiny first aid kit squeezed

A water filter never struck me as overkill—honestly, it's one of those things you don't think about until you really need it. I've seen folks scramble after a pipe break or water main issue, wishing they'd planned ahead. My must-carry is a handheld ham radio, but water ranks right up there for essentials. Ever had to use your filter on a regular outing, or is it mostly peace of mind?

A small tin of herbal salve goes everywhere with me, purse or pockets. It sounds quaint, but honestly, it’s saved my skin (literally) more times than I can count—scrapes, cuts, hangnails, bug bites, even chapped lips. I’ve whipped it out in the garden, on a hike, and more than once sitting in a waiting room. Feels like having a tiny first aid kit, but it doesn’t take up any room. I do stash a few herbal teabags too, mostly for nerves or headaches, but the salve is the non-negotiable.

Funny how everyone’s “must-carry” says something about their priorities and day-to-day, doesn’t it? I’m curious if folks with tech like ham radios or mini-filters ever get odd looks pulling them out in public. Or maybe people just don’t notice?
