Whats One Prep You Wish Youd Started Sooner?

Wish I’d started learning about water storage options a lot earlier. Figured my well would always be enough, but last summer’s drought really shook that assumption. How do folks here manage their long-term water supply, especially in rural areas? I’d love to hear what systems or redundancy setups you regret not putting in place sooner. Definitely an area I’m focusing on now.

Started rainwater collection way later than I should’ve—makes such a difference in backup options. Anyone tried adding filtration to their setup for drinking, or just using it for everything else?

Waiting so long to set up a real water storage backup is probably my biggest “wish I’d started sooner” regret too. We always counted on the well, but when ours froze a few winters back, it was a rude awakening. Ended up hauling water from town in buckets for a week—never want to do that again! Got some big food-grade barrels for rainwater now, plus a Berkey filter for emergencies (not just the pitcher kind, but the full gravity system). Feels more secure knowing I can make the rainwater drinkable if it really comes down to it.

One thing I didn’t consider early enough was how heavy and awkward big water tanks are to move around once they’re full or even half-full. Wish I’d set up a more permanent storage spot closer to the garden and house from the start. Also, never realized
