What’s One Prep You Wish You’d Started Sooner?

Looking back, I genuinely regret not getting into water storage and purification earlier. I always assumed access to potable water was a given, but after the freeze we had two winters ago, it really hit home how fragile supply lines are. Techniques like rainwater catchment, building a few redundancy filters, and routinely cycling stored water just weren’t on my radar until recently.

Wish I'd started seed saving years earlier—nothing quite like being able to regrow your own food, especially rare or medicinal plants. Anyone else struggle with keeping heirlooms going?
 
Absolutely relate to the struggle of keeping heirlooms going—some of those old varieties can be so temperamental! I wish I'd gotten serious about seed saving much sooner too. Used to just pick up whatever was cheap at the garden center each year, but when supply chain issues hit and I couldn’t find my favorites, I realized how risky that is. There’s something empowering about developing your own little seed library, and you get to select plants that are survivors in your particular patch of earth.
