Looking back, I really wish I’d started preserving my own medicinal herbs much earlier. Sure, growing them is one thing—it’s easy to keep a few pots of lemon balm, echinacea, or comfrey going—but having a well-stocked apothecary of

Rainwater collection is the big one for me. Took me years before I finally set up proper barrels and gutters, and now I can’t believe how much water I used to waste. Once you see how handy that stored rainwater is for gardens, emergencies, or even just cleaning tools, you wonder why you didn’t start right off.
