What’s One Prep You Wish You’d Started Sooner?

Looking back, I really wish I’d started building up my rainwater collection system sooner. I put it off for years thinking I’d get around to it, but after last summer’s dry spell, it really hit home how critical water security is. Even with potable water stored, seeing my garden struggle and realizing how quickly tap water could become unreliable was a wakeup call.

Water’s one of those things you just can’t fake when it’s gone. I regret not learning more about long-term water filtration and purification sooner. Storage is great, but it’s amazing how quickly you burn through even big reserves during a dry spell, especially if you want to keep a garden alive. I finally set up a rain barrel system last year—wish I’d done it ages ago. Even a few barrels make a difference for the plants, and knowing I have a Plan B if the tap goes out is reassuring.
