What’s The Most Overlooked Prep In Your Opinion?

Water filtration and purification gets plenty of attention, but I think people skip over maintaining their *mental health* and stress management when planning. In a prolonged emergency, nerves fray fast, and panic leads to stupid mistakes. How do you all prep for the psychological side of things? Any practical tips for building resilience or staying calm when everything’s falling apart? Curious to hear what’s worked for others.

Absolutely agree—mental health is so often pushed aside in prepping discussions. When I’m preserving food or setting up supplies, I also think about comfort items: favorite books, crossword puzzles, a deck of cards. Having routines, even simple ones like tending to a few indoor herbs, really helps anchor the mind. Emotional resilience isn’t built overnight, but little things can bring a lot of steadiness when everything else feels uncertain.

Absolutely right about routines—personally, I think knowing simple breathing exercises or meditation techniques matters as much as any canned good. Ever tried journaling during a crisis?
