What’s the Most Overlooked Prep in Your Opinion?

Water purification gets a lot of well-deserved attention, but I rarely see folks discuss the long-term maintenance of sanitation systems. I’m talking about things like composting toilets, greywater solutions, and managing human waste safely after the initial emergency phase. In an extended grid-down event, standard toilets become useless fast. Improper waste handling could lead to disease outbreaks just as easily as food shortages.

Has anyone here actually set up a backup sanitation system on their property and tested it for more than a few days? I’m trying to figure out cost-effective methods that’ll last months, not just a week or two. Are there particular materials or designs that have proven to hold up under regular use? Sawdust toilets? DIY septic barrels? Not just theory, but real-world results would be helpful. Curious how you handle the odor issues too
