What’s The One Prep You Never Skip?

Water storage is the one prep I never skip, no matter what else is going on. I rotate jugs regularly and keep purification tablets on hand just in case. Food storage and first aid are big, too, but nothing matters if there’s no clean water. Curious what’s at the top of everyone else’s list—what’s the prep you refuse to cut corners on, even if time or money are tight? Always looking for tips to tighten up my own routine.

Food preservation is my non-negotiable—every season I’m either canning, fermenting, or dehydrating something. Even when life gets busy or jars are tough to find, I always make sure there’s a steady turnover so nothing sits too long. Having shelf-stable meals ready just eases my mind more than anything. Anyone else keep a running inventory list, or is it just me scribbling notes around the pantry?

First aid kit’s always at the top of my list—can’t predict when you’ll need it, and even a small cut can turn bad quick. Anyone found a clever way to store meds long-term?

Fire-making gear, always—flint, matches, even old dryer lint packed in baggies. Without fire for warmth and cooking, everything else gets a lot harder. Anyone else stash backup lighters everywhere?
