What’s the One Prep You Wish You’d Done Sooner?

Looking back, I really wish I'd started keeping a larger rainwater catchment system earlier. The convenience and peace of mind during dry spells is huge, plus it’s made my garden so much more resilient. For those who’ve been prepping a while, what’s the one thing you wish you’d prioritized sooner? Curious if there are other “why didn’t I do this years ago?” lessons out there, especially from folks who focus on sustainable or traditional methods.

Wish I’d started a composting system way earlier. Getting proper compost going not only cut down my waste, but the soil improvements have been incredible for the garden—plants are just happier and stronger now. Didn’t realize how much store-bought fertilizer I could do without until I made my own. Anyone else find a traditional method like this just totally changed their setup?

Solar panels, hands down. Can’t believe I put that off for so long—once I finally set up a small array, everything changed. No more worrying about running amps off the grid or keeping music gear charged when the power flickers. There’s something freeing about harnessing your own energy, too. For anyone on the fence, did you find the upfront cost worth it in the long run?
