What’s the One Prep You’d Never Go Without?

If I had to pick just one absolute must-have, it's a good water filter. Clean water trumps everything in my book. Curious—what’s the ONE prep item you’d never risk going without, no matter what?

Solar charger, hands down. If I can keep my radio, lights, and maybe even a keyboard powered, I feel way more at ease. Ever tried one in cloudy weather?

If I could only choose one, it’d have to be my little herbal first aid kit. So many common plants can help with pain, infections, or upset stomachs when you can’t get to a pharmacy. I feel better knowing I can treat cuts or a headache just with things I’ve gathered myself. Anyone else rely more on natural remedies, or is it mostly

If I can only choose one, it’s got to be a sturdy, multipurpose knife. There isn’t a day I’m out in the garden or poking around old trails that I don’t reach for mine. It’s useful for foraging, building shelter, preparing food, even making simple repairs when something breaks. A quality blade, kept sharp and well-cared for, just never lets you down. Water’s vital, of course, but sometimes you can improvise a basic filter from what’s around you—almost impossible to replace a well-made knife out in the wild.

I do gravitate toward herbal remedies too, ChamomileCra

I keep coming back to matches and fire starters—fire’s the heart of warmth, cooking, even basic comfort when things go sideways. I’ve tried plenty of fancy gear but nothing’s as reliable as a simple waterproof match tin. Maybe it’s old-fashioned, but if I can make a fire, I feel like I’ve got a fighting chance at everything else. Anyone else stash way more fire-making stuff than they probably need?

Hard to narrow it down to just one, but for me it’s got to be seeds—specifically, a stash of open-pollinated vegetable and herb seeds. Out of all the “stuff” we store or carry, seeds actually multiply. You can start a few in pots indoors, or dig

Absolutely agree—being able to start a fire makes such a difference, especially on cold nights. Waterproof matches are a staple in my kits, tucked everywhere just in case!
