What’s the One Prep You’d Never Go Without?

If you could only count on one item or skill in an emergency, what would it be? For me, it’s a reliable water filter—no contest. Curious what’s at the top of your must-have list and why.

Canning supplies, hands down. If I can preserve what I grow or forage, that gives me food security way beyond just a few weeks. Have you ever tried pressure canning meat?

Preserving what you grow is a real cornerstone, especially during unpredictable times. I’ve started dabbling with pressure canning—still feel a bit nervous every time that lid locks down! The thought of putting up meats is fascinating but I haven't ventured past vegetables and beans yet. Does it change the flavor much? I’m eyeing chicken and stew beef for my next go, since garden surplus only goes so

A good water filter is hard to beat, especially since you can’t go long without clean water. But if I really had to pick one thing, I’d have to go with my handheld ham radio and the know-how to use it. Might sound niche, but in a real emergency—

For me, it’s always been my knowledge of wild plants and herbs. If supplies run low, knowing what’s edible or medicinal right outside your door is a real comfort. There’s something powerful about being able to walk into the woods and come back with food or a remedy. Anyone else leaning on skills more than stuff?
