There’s always debate on the must-have item, but for me, a quality water filter trumps everything else. You can stockpile endless supplies, but without clean water, nothing else matters. Curious what others put at the very top of their list—gear, skill, or stash item? Has your #1 changed over the years as situations or knowledge shift? Always re-evaluating here and wonder if anyone’s had a “can’t believe I forgot that” moment.

Herbal knowledge is my can’t-live-without prep. Filters and gadgets break, but plants will always be there—if you know which ones to trust. I rely on my know-how for food, medicine, even wound care. Funny thing is, years ago I totally overlooked proper footwear—can’t do much foraging with sore feet! Anyone else ever forget something simple like that?
