What’s Your #1 Most Overlooked Prep Item?

So many lists out there, but I’m convinced most folks forget about manual can openers—especially sturdy ones that don’t break after a week. Batteries lose juice, power goes out, and then all that canned food’s useless without a way in. What’s the one item you think most people overlook, but really shouldn’t? Curious to see what others have stashed away that doesn’t top the typical lists.

People always forget about prescription glasses or reading glasses! In a real emergency, losing or breaking your only pair turns everything into a struggle, especially if you’re dealing with tiny print or trying to work with your hands. I keep an extra pair in every bag, plus a few of those cheap magnifiers. Has anyone else run into trouble because they didn’t have the right vision?

Absolutely, spare glasses are a must—drop yours once and it's a nightmare! Ever tried those stick-on magnifiers for emergencies? Curious how well they actually work.

Having a backup for vision is huge—funny how much we rely on it until it’s gone. I tried those stick-on magnifiers once, and honestly, they worked in a pinch but kept slipping off after a bit, especially if it was humid or I got sweaty. Not ideal, but better than nothing if you lose your main glasses. Ever found a brand that actually stays put?

Matches stuck in a waterproof case always seem to get forgotten, but without a surefire way to start a fire, everything from boiling water to staying warm gets a lot harder. Lighters are great till they run out or malfunction, but matches don’t rely on anything but friction. Anyone have a brand that actually handles a damp garden shed for months without turning to mush?
