Whats Your #1 Must-Have Item for Bugging Out?

When packing my bug out bag, I always find myself reaching for my water filter first. Clean water is just too important to gamble with, no matter the situation. If I had to choose just one thing, that’d be it—though I know others might say knife, firestarter, or shelter. Curious what’s at the top of everyone else’s list? And if you have a good reason for your choice, I’d love to hear it.

Gotta say, I’m with you on water being essential, but my top pick is actually a sturdy pair of walking shoes. If you can't keep moving safely, all the gear in the world won’t help much. I’ve seen too many blisters and sprains over the years, and they can be a real showstopper. Anybody else think footwear’s overlooked, or am I just overthinking it?

Footwear makes total sense. If your feet give out, there’s no way you’re getting far, no matter what else you packed. I still can’t put water purification any lower than first, but sturdy shoes are probably my close second. I’ve had enough sore feet from garden days to know it’s no joke in tougher conditions. Does anyone keep a backup pair of socks or foot care stuff in their bags?
