What’s Your Backup Plan If the Grid Goes Down?

If the power grid fails long-term, what’s your go-to for water filtration and keeping basic med supplies viable? I’ve got solar and a gravity filter setup, but curious how others keep things running without a generator. Always looking for new ideas to plug the gaps.

Solar plus a gravity filter sounds solid. I also keep ceramic filters as backup—they’re slower but reliable and don’t need much maintenance. For medical supplies, I’ve started storing some in a small insulated bag with a cold pack you can recharge in the sun using reflective mylar. Not perfect for everything, but it helps. Anyone found a good long-term solution for keeping meds cool without electricity?

Keeping meds cool without power is tricky, for sure. I use a clay pot “zeer” cooler (just two pots with sand and water between them) in my basement—works surprisingly well for short-term needs, even in summer. Gravity filters are my mainstay too, but I also boil water when I can. Ever tried a root cellar or buried cooler for storing meds? Curious if anyone’s had luck with that long term.
