What’s Your Go-To Backup Power Solution?
When it comes to backup power, I’ve experimented with a few different setups over the years. I started with a basic gas generator but found the noise and fuel storage requirements to be problematic, especially for longer-term outages. These days, I’m leaning more on a combination of solar panels and a battery bank (Jackery Explorer 1000 with extra solar panels works for me) as my primary option. It’s quiet, relatively portable, and I can keep some essentials running—lights, a CPAP, charging radios, and small freezer during the day.
I still keep that old generator around for emergencies, but honestly, fuel is harder to store safely long-term. Propane generators seem like a decent compromise, but I haven’t tried one yet. Is anyone relying on those or dual-fuel models? How’s performance and maintenance compared to gas?
