What’s Your Go-To Backup Power Solution?

With grid failures on the rise, I’m curious what backup power setups folks actually rely on. I’m leaning toward a solar generator with LiFePO4 batteries, but don’t want to overlook anything better. Anyone running hybrid systems or have real-world feedback on performance during extended outages?

Solar generators with LiFePO4 batteries do seem to be a favorite these days, mostly for good reason—long lifespan, stable performance, and less risk of overheating compared to other battery types. I’ve used a mid-sized setup for a couple of years now, mainly to keep the freezer, a few lights, and charge devices running during outages. It’s been dependable, but cloudy stretches will definitely put a dent in the charging capability, especially during winter.

I've mulled over hybrid systems (solar plus propane or even a small inverter generator as backup to the backup). For extended emergencies, having a mix gives real peace of mind. Solar alone is quiet and clean, but if you absolutely need power after several sunless days, a low-wattage gas or propane generator can top up your batteries without guzz
