What’s Your Go-To Backup Power Solution?

When the grid goes down, what’s your preferred backup power? I’ve been weighing the pros and cons of solar generators vs. portable fuel-based systems. My setup right now is a mix: small solar panels tied to a battery bank for basics (lighting, communication gear, some charging), plus an old propane generator as a last resort. The solar works well in summer, but I’m not convinced it’s enough for winter or cloudy stretches.

Curious if anyone’s found a reliable way to store enough energy for multiple cloudy days, or if folks are sticking with older fuel methods for that reason. I’m always wary of relying on gas/diesel since storage and shelf life are big concerns, not to mention the noise and maintenance. Has anyone tried those newer lithium power stations, like Jackery or Bluetti, as a full solution? And does anyone incorporate wind or micro-hydro for off-grid redundancy?

Would appreciate insights from folks living in less sunny areas—how are you keeping the lights on, and anything you wish you’d done differently when setting up your own backup?
