What’s Your Go-To Budget Prep for Power Outages?

When the lights go out, I rely on battery-powered LED puck lights stashed around the house—cheap to stock up and last ages. Anyone else have low-cost, tried-and-true solutions for quick light and basic needs during outages? Always looking for ideas to stretch the budget.

Those little LED tap lights are great! I’ve had good luck with dollar store solar garden lights—just charge ‘em outside during the day and stick them in jars at night for portable, safe light. For basics, I keep a stash of shelf-stable snacks and a kettle that can go on my old camping stove if I need hot water. Has anyone tried those hand-crank flashlights lately…are they still as finicky as they used to be?

Solar garden lights are a real win for the price, I agree—they double as path markers outside too. Those hand-crank flashlights do work, but the cheap ones still seem to give out or get stuck after a while (my grandkids think cranking them is a game, though). I always keep a stack of old-fashioned candles and a box of matches in a tin, just in case everything else fails. Has anyone found a good, reliable wind-up radio that doesn’t break the bank?
