Over the past few weeks, I’ve been revising my bug out bag and keep running into the same question—if you had to pick just one item (besides the obvious water and food), what’s the “can’t leave behind” gear you always make room for? I realize different folks have their own priorities, but there must be a few things most of us agree are absolutely critical.

Always gotta have a headlamp with spare batteries tucked away. Nothing beats hands-free light when you're fumbling around in the dark, especially trying to set up camp or read a map. Multi-tool is tempting, but I’ve managed with basic tools when I could actually see what I was doing. Do you folks prefer rechargeable ones or good old-fashioned AA/AAA?
