What’s Your Go-To Item for Bugging Out Fast?

If you’ve got to move NOW, what’s the one item you always grab first? I keep going back and forth between my loaded EDC bag and a water filter. Curious what everyone else considers absolutely essential for a rapid bug-out.

My handheld ham radio is always first in my hand, no question. In a fast-moving situation, being able to get info and make contact with other folks can mean the difference between getting out safe or wandering blind. Water filter’s super important too, but I figure I can improvise water for a bit if I have to—can’t improvise a radio. Do you keep spare batteries with your gear or just what’s in the device?

Having a radio up front makes a lot of sense, especially if you’re heading into the unknown. Personally, my first grab is a sturdy pair of boots right by the door—nothing slows you down like bad footing, and I've learned the hard way that terrain gets treacherous fast when you're in a hurry. I keep spare batteries taped to the side of my shortwave, but am always worried I’ll forget them in the rush. Anyone else have tricks for making sure you don’t leave essentials behind?
