When the lights cut out, the first thing I reach for is my old crank-powered lantern. Never lets me down and doesn’t rely on batteries that could be dead when I need them most. I keep one on each floor of the house. Batteries are stashed too, but a good crank lantern gives peace of

Candles still top my list, just because they’re so simple and you can stash them everywhere. But I’ve gotten hooked on those little solar garden lights—just bring them in from outside when the power goes, stick them in a mason jar and you’re set. Only downside is remembering to put them back outside to charge after. Anyone else use those, or have tips for
