What’s Your Go-To Off-Grid Cooking Method?
Getting meals cooked off-grid is one area I’m still experimenting with, so I’d love to hear what’s working for others. I’ve used a rocket stove for years—mainly with twigs and small wood—and have had pretty good luck, but it’s not always the most efficient when I’ve got windy days, or when I need a simmer instead of a quick boil.
I’ve also tried solar ovens, and while they’re great in theory, I find I’m pretty limited on cloudy days here in the Midwest. There’s always the old Dutch oven in a firepit method, but that uses up a fair bit of fuel and time.
What have folks found most reliable for consistent, off-grid cooking? Has anyone built a woodgas stove or invested in a Biolite? I’m especially interested in anything that’s low
