Solar generator's a good start, but don't forget water. Got a rain collection system set up yet? Can't stress the importance of that enough.
Solar’s been my main backup for a while now, with a bank of deep cycle batteries and an inverter hooked up to panels I mounted on the shed. Works pretty well for running essentials, plus I wired the music room first—always gotta keep the upright bass plugged in somehow. I set it up so I can switch off everything but critical loads and stretch the charge. Rain catchment is a must too, like AquaFern mentioned. I’ve got three old food-grade barrels hooked up under the gutters and a couple of Berkey filters for actual drinking water.
