What’s Your Go-To Skill For Grid Down Survival?
When the grid goes down, a lot of folks talk about food storage and water purification as priorities (and for good reason), but I always wonder how many are actively practicing a communications skill. For me, amateur radio is non-negotiable — it’s saved me more than once during regional outages and storms. The ability to reach out for accurate info, coordinate with neighbors, and even call for help (when cell towers are toast) just can’t be replaced by anything else.
Curious to know what everyone else thinks—if you had to rely on ONE skill to keep your family safe and connected during a long-term outage, what would it be? Is it medical, mechanical, communications, or something else entirely? Also, if anyone’s done a real-world drill or scenario testing their core skill, how did it hold up under pressure?
