Whats Your Go-To Skill for Total Grid Failure?

When the grid goes down, what’s the first practical skill you put to use? For me it’s basic medical care, but I know folks who swear by water filtration or food preservation. Curious what everyone’s top “must-have” skill is for long-term survival in a blackout.

Basic medical care is a big one, but for me, it’s always water first. I keep old milk jugs rinsed and filled just in case, but I also practice filtering and boiling, because storage only lasts so long. I’ve seen storms knock out our water before, and if you can’t drink or cook, the rest doesn’t matter much. Water is always at the top of my list too—can’t do much if you’re thirsty or have to worry about what’s in your cup. I’d add that knowing how to grow or forage edible plants gives you a serious leg up, especially when preserved supplies run low. Food comes after water, but a little green knowledge stretches everything further. Do you ever practice finding wild edibles, or mostly stick to homegrown?
