What’s Your Most Overlooked Prep Item?

Every time I inventory my supplies, I realize I’ve neglected something basic—like can openers or extra reading glasses. It’s easy to focus on the big stuff like water filters or ammo, but these little things could make daily life a lot tougher in a long-term situation. What’s the item you always seem to forget until you need it, or wish you’d stocked more of? Curious to hear what slips through the cracks for others.

Always forget about chapstick—dry lips drive me crazy after a day or two! Anybody else stock up on random comfort items like that, or is it just me?

It’s always the little things, isn’t it? I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve packed up first aid kits, food, and water, only to forget a stash of simple batteries—or those tiny button cells for things like thermometers or mini flashlights. Ended up raiding my smoke detector once because I needed a battery for my headlamp during a power outage. Also, I’d add nail clippers to the list. Dealing with a ragged nail or hangnail when you’re already stressed is downright maddening. Plus, you don’t want a small cut getting infected.

Funny you mention comfort items—peppermint tea bags go in every kit I make. Helps digestion, settles nerves, and a warm cup goes a long way if you’re stuck somewhere cold.

Curious if anyone keeps “spare” hobby stuff packed? I’ve tucked away an old paperback and a notepad. There’s only so much staring at the wall one can do during a long blackout!
