What’s Your Most Overlooked Prep Item?

Everyone talks about food, water, and the usual gear, but I rarely see much chatter about spare prescription glasses or reading glasses. For those of us who rely on them, losing a pair could be a real disaster when things go sideways. Do others keep extras stashed in different kits or vehicles? Wondering what other items folks think get consistently missed in their prepping that could make a world of difference in a pinch.

Always keep an extra can opener tucked away—seems silly, but without it, all that canned food’s useless! Anyone else stash multiples of little tools like that?

Spare glasses are a huge one—if I ever lost mine in an emergency, I’d be practically helpless! I also make sure to keep extra hearing aid batteries on hand (if you or anyone in your household uses them, don’t forget this), and honestly, one thing I don’t see mentioned enough is lip balm. Sounds trivial, but if you’re exposed to wind or cold for days, cracked lips can get downright miserable and even infected.

Another often-missed item: dental hygiene supplies. Floss and toothbrushes, especially, because dental pain can be utterly debilitating. Toss a few extra in every kit you make.

You’d be amazed how much morale can drop when you’re dealing with little nagging discomforts. Oh, and paper lists of emergency contacts—phones die, get lost, or just don’t work sometimes, so having numbers written down feels old-fashioned but it’s a real lifesaver.

Curious if anyone stashes things for stress relief too, like a deck of cards or simple games? Those little comforts can mean
